What to know

In February EF Pro Cycling turned heads at the Tour Colombia 2.1 race by unleashing a multi-pronged assault on the yellow jersey with Sergio Higuita, Daniel Martínez, and Rigoberto Urán. The team won three stages and Higuita took the overall, and EF did so against Team Ineos’ strongmen Egan Bernal and Richard Carapaz. The Tour de France presents an entirely different challenge, of course, but EF will march into the race with a similar approach. Higuita is an explosive climber who can also time trial; Martínez soars in the high mountains; and Urán is the experienced veteran who has landed on the podium.

Our take

We always cheer for the American squad at the Tour, and oftentimes they come up empty handed. This year the stars could finally align, with Higuita, Martínez, and Urán posing a formidable challenge to Team Ineos. The podium is a possibility for the squad.
