What to know
Mark Cavendish was left off the Tour roster in favor of focusing on new hire Mikel Landa and his ambitions for the overall. Landa is still looking to match his Giro d’Italia podium from 2015; he’s finished inside the top-10 at the Tour on three occasions and would love to land on the podium.
Our take
Could this be the year that Mikel Landa finally puts everything together for a strong Tour de France finish? This year’s mountainous Tour route with its single uphill individual time trial definitely caters to Landa’s strengths. And Landa has as strong a supporting cast as he ever has had as an undisputed team leader. If he cracks the top-five it’s a success.
