Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale) won the 68th Tour of Poland on Saturday after finishing second on the final stage.

WARSAW (AFP) - Ireland's Daniel Martin of the Garmin-Carvelo team took the overall Tour of Poland race lead after winning Friday's 207.7km sixth stage around Bukowina Tatrzanska.

Skil-Shimano's Marcel Kittel won his third consecutive stage at the 2011 Tour of Poland on Tuesday, building his GC lead to 24 seconds ahead of three riders: Romain Felllu (Vacansoleil), Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Cervelo) and Alexander Kristoff (BMC).

SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain (VN) — The dust has barely settled following the Tour de France and big-time racing returns across Europe with a busy weekend.

PARIS (AFP) - Quick Step's Tom Boonen, who dropped out of the Tour de France on the seventh stage after an earlier crash, is to return to the road in the Tour of Poland, his team announced on Monday.

With a former British amateur champion for a father and the sister of a Tour de France winner for a mother, there was little question that Daniel Martin would be a cyclist when he grew up.

HTC-Columbia's big German powered across the finish line in Dabrowa Gornicza well clear of Australian Allan Davis (Astana) and the remainder of the pack in the bunch sprint that decided the 240km stage.

The day marks the 65th anniversary of the Red Army’s liberation of Auschwitz, one of the most horrific Nazi concentration camps.

World champion Alessandro Ballan (Lampre) won the 66th edition of the Tour of Poland on Saturday after the seventh and final stage. The 136km stage, from Rabka to Krakow, was won by Germany's André Greipel of the Columbia-HTC squad. Ballan wasn't assured of victory before Saturday's mountainous finale having only an 11-second lead over closest rival Advald Boasson Hagen (Columbia-HTC), who had won the two of the earlier stages of the race.

Norway's Edvald Boasson Hagen (Columbia) won a sprint finish for the sixth and penultimate stage of the Tour of Poland in Zakopane on Friday. Hagen crossed ahead of Italians Alessandro Ballan (Lampre), who holds the overall race leader's yellow jersey, and Marco Marcato after the 162km run between Kroscienko and Zakopane. "The stage was very tough. It wasn't possible to take the yellow jersey from Ballan, but tomorrow I'm going to do everything I can to take it from him and win," warned Hagen.

Frenchman Stephane Auge of Cofidis claimed the 192km fifth stage of the ProTour's Tour of Poland from Legnica to Jelenia Gora on Friday.Auge edged out fellow escapee American AaronOlson (Saunier Duval) with Max van Heeswijk (Discovery)  leadinghome the peloton 21 seconds back.Italian Daniele Bennati held on to the leader's yellow jersey after finishing sixth.Auge broke away from the peloton after just 12km and was soon joined by Olson.
