As teams roll out their new squads for 2008, VeloNews.com is rolling out its new Web site, packed with new features.
Beta.VeloNews.com, the future home of VeloNews.com, has all the bike racing news and analysis you’ve come to expect from VeloNews online, but with more features like easy-to-browse photo galleries, team and rider profile pages, and micro-sites for major races with collections of stories, photos and results.
Our goal with this site was simple: a clean, easy-to-use portal that delivers all the bike racing news and entertainment you need. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel — just true it up so you can fly along without a second thought.
Want tech? Our technical staff of Matt Pacocha and Lennard Zinn continue to contribute both to the magazine and the Web site. Their work can be found on the homepage and here.
Photo galleries are easier than ever to peruse. Take this collection by the one and only Graham Watson, for example. Click on any photo to bring it full size, then simply click anywhere on that image to advance to the next photo. At any point you can also use the navigational tools to back out, view all the thumbnails, jump to the related story or email the picture to a friend.
For years we have posted literally thousands upon thousands of race reports, previews and analytical stories. Now those past stories are easier to access via the homepage and Race pages. Find the race you’re looking for, then peruse the list of current-year and past-year stories. Quick links take you straight to the results or related photo galleries if you want a quick snapshot.
We have completely overhauled our search engine. Plug in any keyword or words in the white search box in the right upper-hand corner. Hit return, and you’ll get not only all the relevant articles — which can be sorted by date or relevance — but also all the related images.
Also, you can view stories, or photo galleries, by author. Clicking on the byline of a writer or photographer within a story will take you to a list of all their work. Or, you can scroll to the bottom of any page and select from a list of our staff.
We have worked hard to create these features, plus the new, clean design of the site, based on input from readers like you. Over the next few days we will continue to polish the site, as we receive your feedback. We’re pretty excited about it, and hope you are, too.
