Vande Velde’s View: Yeah, we meant to do that.

Well spank me and call me Patrice. Fabian is a bad man and when you have other bad men working for the most badass of the bad, then sometimes you get genius. But that’s still pretty rare. Most times you work with all of the good intentions in the world and still come up short. Then, when you least expect it, when your pants are down and you’re scrambling just to stay alive, you win anyway! In those moments you come off looking like we did today… like we meant to do it.

Don't miss a moment from Paris-Roubaix and Unbound Gravel, to the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a España, and everything in between when you join Outside+.

Jens was laughing the other day, commenting on how the first three guys who had to work on the first stage would be team captains on any other team. Jens, Stuey and Dave Z had to work first and God bless anyone trying to get away with those guys pulling behind them.

But honestly, right now I am still in shock. We all are.

Jens and I looked at each other after the stage and just shook our heads in disbelief.

The guys all just had a couple glasses of Champagne in celebration of the bear.

Hopefully it won’t be our last.
