Team Type1, BMC and RadioShack are all confirmed to race the Giro del Trentino in April as the Giro d’Italia warm-up race continues to reveal details of the 35th edition of the race set for April 19-22.
The three U.S.-registered teams will be among 20 squads starting the four-day race held in the mountains of northern Italy, is a favorite among Giro contenders heading to the corsa rosa the following month.
The race has been upgraded to 2.HC on the UCI calendar for the 2011 season, giving it more importance among teams looking to fill out their respective calendars. Other teams confirmed to attend include French squads Europcar and Ag2r-La Mondiale.
On Thursday, race organizers also confirmed that the race will conclude up the Madonna di Campilgio climb, in part to honor Marco Pantani’s stage victory on the same mountain during the 1999 Giro.
Alexander Vinokourov won the 2010 edition while Damiano Cunego has won the race a record three times. Both are expected to be back for this year’s race.
