Get your team ready for this year’s Subaru 24-Hour Champion Challenge. In its ninth year, the mountain biking event combines recreational fun and a challenging adventure, while creating good-natured competition for teams of friends, co-workers and individual racers who compete for prizes and glory.
The goal of the race is to complete as many laps as possible on the 12-mile Seven Springs course in 24 hours. Competitors can race as a part of a team or on their own. The race begins at 12 p.m., Sat., Aug. 30, and ends at 12 p.m., Sun., Aug. 31. Endurance, teamwork and the ability to have fun are required! The team relay format allows riders with abilities ranging from intermediate to elite to compete and enjoy the race.
Seven Springs has hosted many cycling events over the past decade, including three mountain bike National Championship Series races, two Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships and two USA Cycling National Festivals.
“The Subaru 24-Hour Champion Challenge is more for fun than a typical National Championship Race, but some competitors will be competing for bonus points in the Mid-Atlantic Super Series,” said Terry Shaffer, the race’s Technical Director.
Athletes who race in the popular regional mountain bike series are eligible to earn bonus points by competing in the Labor Day weekend event at Seven Springs. For information on the bonus points and the Mid-Atlantic Super Series, visit www.masuperseries.com
“It is always thrilling at the beginning of the race, but you can’t help but be amazed watching the teams head out to navigate the course after the sun goes down. Sunrise really is a big morale booster after a long night of competing – or working the event,” adds Shaffer.
The 24-Hour Champion Challenge is presented by Subaru and supported by Lupine Lighting Systems. Subaru will be present with their 2009 vehicles and Lupine will provide support for all competitors and several lighting systems for a raffle.
