2:38 p.m. (local time) — We had a chance to speak with Steffen Kjaergaard (U.S. Postal) . He rode a 1:19:13… and he wasn’t worried a bit.
“It’s already 8 minutes down and Lance should be another five minutes faster than that.”
Kjaergaard said he planned to take it easy, not riding hard and getting ready for the remaining mountain stages. He rode a standard road bike with no aero’ bars.
2:30 p.m. (local time) — Vaughters is on course and we should be getting updates from John Wilcockson along the way.
2:20 p.m. (local time) — Hincapie is on course and at the finish, we have a new second-placed rider. Alberto Lopez de Munain (Euskaltel-Euskadi)1:12:16.950.
Lennard Zinn just spoke with Tyler Hamilton at the finish. He turned in a 1:18:49.840, which put him 44th among the 69 riders to finish so far.
Hamilton has been ill, but says he is feeling “okay.” He says he is relieved to have even survived yesterday’s killer stage to L’Alpe d’Huez.
2:11 p.m. (local time) — The sun is finally broken out from behind the clouds at the start.
All the teams are off warming up near the starting area. George Hincapie is warming up on his trainer. He’s set to start in 8 minutes.

2:05 p.m. (local time) — Fifty riders have finished so far, but the top five spots remain unchanged.
