Just a day after U.S. champ Timmy Duggan joined Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank, Hugo Houle is the latest Spidertech-C10 rider to land a ride for 2013.
Ag2r La Mondiale confirmed Thursday that Houle, 22, would join the French squad for the 2013 season.
The Canadian is a three-time national U23 time trial champion and won a stage and the overall at the Tour of Quebec in 2012 riding for Spidertech. He was also fourth in the U23 world championship road race and 13th in the worlds time trial.
The French WorldTour team has signed scores of new riders to bolster its roster for the 2013 season, among them Valentin Iglinskiy (Astana), Domenico Pozzovivo (Colnago-CSF), Davide Appollonio (Sky), Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis) and Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ-BigMat).
The squad’s top departures are Nicholas Roche (who joins Duggan at Saxo Bank) and Martin Elmiger, Kristoff Goddaert and Sebastien Hinault, all to the new IAM Racing team based in Switzerland.
Spidertech riders, meanwhile, are slowly finding places for 2013 after the Canadian team owned by Steve Bauer decided to suspend its racing efforts for next season in order to reload for the 2014 season.
Others to find spots on teams despite the late hour include Brian Vandborg, Guillaume Boivin and David Boily (all to Cannondale), Ryan Anderson and Ryan Roth (to Champion System), Francois Parisien (to Argos-Shimano) and Duggan to Saxo Bank.
