Two-time Italian champion Giovanni Visconti and Jonathan Castroviejo will be making their respective debuts in Movistar colors next week at the Tour de San Luís in Argentina.
The pair are among eight newcomers to Spain’s biggest team. Alejandro Valverde, back from his two-year racing ban, is debuting this week at the Tour Down Under while Vuelta champion Juanjo Cobo will likely debut at the Mallorca Challenge next month.
Other new arrivals include Vladimir Karpets, back to the team fold after a two-year run at Katusha, as well as José Herrada and Javier Moreno, both from Caja Rural.
Joining the pair in Argentina will be Spanish sprinter Fran Ventoso, 2010 Giro runner-up David Arroyo and Costa Rican Andrey Amador.
The team will depart for South America on Thursday, with racing running January 23-29.
Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank) was among the other top riders expected to start, until the announcement Monday that a resolution will not be reached in his long-running clenbuterol case this week as expected. The resolution is expected the last week in January.
