The UCI announced the calendar for the 2017 Women’s WorldTour on Saturday, with four new events set to join the top-level circuit next year. The added quartet brings the total count of races to 21.
The Women’s WorldTour will again kick off in Italy in March with Strade Bianche and conclude in Spain with September’s Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta.
A women’s Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liége give the calendar two new one-day races in April, which will form a ladies’ Ardennes week along with La Flèche Wallonne Femmes.
August will see the addition of the Ladies Tour of Norway and the Boels Rentals Ladies Tour, which runs through the end of the month into September.
“The extended calendar reflects the significant progress being made to boost the profile and professionalism of women’s cycling and establish its status within mainstream sport,” said UCI President Brian Cookson via a press release. “We will continue to move forward and look at ways we can further increase the exposure of women’s cycling in line with the UCI’s strategy for developing the sport.”
