PARIS (AFP) — Tour of Turkey champion Ivailo Gabrovsky of Bulgaria has tested positive for the banned blood booster EPO (erythropoietin), the UCI announced Wednesday.
Cycling’s world ruling body said a sample taken from Gabrovsky, who rides for the Konya-Torku Seker Spor team, had tested positive for the banned hormone.
Grabovsky won the hardest climbing stage of the race on April 24, the day he provided the sample. Five days later he won the race.
He is provisionally suspended while awaiting the results of analysis of a B Sample, as is Lithuanian rider Rasa Leleivyte, who also tested positive for EPO following a random test.
Both riders have the right to have their B Samples tested.
