Reid Mumford wins Green Mountain Stage Race second stage, Ted King holds lead

Kelly Benefit Strategies goes 1-2 at the Vermont stage race, while Ted King retains the overall lead. Janel Holcomb (Team Danbury Audi/Cyfac) wins the women's stage.

Kelly Benefit Strategies went 1-2 on Saturday at the Green Mountain Stage Race in Vermont. KBS’ Reid Mumford took the win and teammate David Veilleux was second in the Bridges Resort Road Race. UnitedHealthcare-Maxxis’ Tim Johnson was third.

Ted King, who normally races for the Cervelo TestTeam, retained the overall lead. King is racing in iamTedKing kit because of UCI rules.

King won the opening time trial Friday and finished in a 14-man break to retain his lead. Johnson’s time bonus for finishing third moved him past Cameron Cogburn (CCB-Wheelworks) and into second on GC.

“The domestic pro teams are going to be tough to win against,” said King, who’s riding without teammates. “Veilleux is out of the GC, but I’ve got to watch riders like Jamey Driscoll (Jamis-Sutter Home) and Tim Johnson.”

In the elite women’s race, the PeanutButter & Co.-Twenty12 duo of Kristin McGrath and Olivia Dillon got beaten to the line by Team Danbury Audi/Cyfac’s Janel Holcomb. McGrath retains the lead by 21 seconds over Holcomb, with Dillon moving up one sport to third.
