The Rally Cycling team, long a mainstay of the domestic road circuit, announced the signing of world junior time trial champion Brandon McNulty Thursday when the Continental team unveiled its 2017 roster.
McNulty won the 2016 time trial championships in Doha, Qatar in October, and said he’s eager to learn the trade from a diverse cast of teammates at Rally. “One thing Rally Cycling has to offer that strictly U23 teams don’t is the opportunity to race with and learn from guys who have been professionals for a long time. They have a tremendous amount of experience and it is a great opportunity to learn from some of the best riders in the peloton,” the 18-year-old Arizonan said.
Rally’s performance manager Jonas Carney said the team has had an eye on McNulty for a few years, calling him “a big talent.” The junior worlds TT is usually a strong indicator of raw cycling pedigree. Past winners include such riders as Fabian Cancellara, Michal Kwiatkowski, Marcel Kittel, and another American, Taylor Phinney.
Beyond McNulty, Rally is also adding Redlands Bicycle Classic winner Matteo Dal-Cin and Tour of Alberta stage winner Colin Joyce for the coming season. The team will continue to focus on the North American calendar with a few stints in Europe as well.
