LES GETS, France (AFP) — Quick Step's Andy Cappelle suffered bruising to the skull and multiple broken bones after falling in Friday's fifth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, race medical staff said.

LES GETS, France (AFP) — Quick Step’s Andy Cappelle suffered bruising to the skull and multiple broken bones after falling in Friday’s fifth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, race medical staff said.

Cappelle was thought to have fractured his collarbone after he fell 23km from the finish in a crash that also involved several other racers.

Irish rider Nicolas Roche was caught up in the incident but he was able to remount and carry on to Les Gets despite bruises to an arm and thigh.

Cappelle, who also suffered fractured ribs and a foot fracture, was taken to hospital at nearby Annemasse, in the Haute-Savoie region.
