Philippe Gilbert confirmed for Canadian WorldTour races

Philippe Gilbert will compete in this fall's WorldTour one-day races in Montreal and Quebec City, event organizers announced Friday.

Thomas Voeckler won the 2010 Quebec City race. Robert Gesink won in Montreal last year.

Gilbert (Omega Pharma-Lotto), the Belgian road champion, is having his best season ever. He leads the UCI’s WorldTour rankings and won all three of the Ardennes classics this spring, as well as stage 1 of the Tour de France.

The Quebec race is being held September 9 and the Montreal race is September 11. Organizers announced earlier this month that they are adding an additional lap to each event, bringing each race’s length to more than 200km.

As they are WorldTour events, all 18 ProTeams are required to send squads to Canada. In addition, the event has invited four Pro Continental squads: SpiderTech, Europcar, FdJ and Cofidis.
