In the News: Vuelta gets green light for women’s race

The UCI worked out a solution to a scheduling conflict to make space for a one-day race to coincide with the finale of the Vuelta a España

A women’s race slated to coincide with the finale of the 2015 Vuelta a España received the green light from the UCI.

According to the Spanish daily AS, the UCI has told Vuelta organizers that a solution has been worked out to make room for the one-day race on the streets of Madrid on September 13 just hours before the men’s Vuelta ends.

Last December, the UCI put the brakes on plans for the so-called La Course by the Vuelta when the governing body pointed out that the date conflicted with three other women’s races.

Following outcry from fans and women’s teams, the UCI worked behind the scenes to find a solution. AS reported that the women’s Tour of Belgium has been moved back one week, opening up more space on the calendar for the Vuelta event.
