AP: Chinese judo champion wins CAS appeal on clenbuterol contamination

Olympic gold medalist Tong Wen won an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday. Tong had tested positive for clenbuterol and like, Alberto Contador, claimed that the positive test was a result of eating contaminated meat. However, CAS made it clear that it ruled in her favor because of procedural mistakes by anti-doping authorities, not because it accepted the contaminated meat claim. The verdict “should not be interpreted as an exoneration of her. In particular, the panel is not declaring that (Tong) did or did not, voluntarily or not, ingest clenbuterol,” the ruling stated. In particular, Tong’s B-sample was tested before she was notified that she could be present at the testing.
