ANS, Belgium (AFP) — Costa Rican Andrey Amador (Movistar) fractured his right collarbone after falling at Sunday’s Liège–Bastogne–Liège, his team confirmed. The injury occurred at the foot of the Côte de la Redoute, 223 kilometers into the 261.5km race.
Amador abandoned the race and went to the hospital, where X-rays revealed the fracture. He suffered the same injury twice in recent years, at the 2011 Tour of Asturias and the 2012 Tour of Piedmont.
The 26-year-old was scheduled to be on Movistar’s squad for the upcoming Giro d’Italia, which runs May 4-26. Amador won a stage at last year’s Giro.
