Millar takes Sarthe-Loire lead after time trial victory
Britain's David Millar (Cofidis) won the nine kilometer individual time-trial to take the overall lead at the Sarthe-Loire cycle race on April 12, at Angers, France. Estonian Jaan Kirsipuu won the 94km third stage between Tierce and Angers earlier in the day after Laurent Brochard, leader since the first stage, fell. Millar put in a blistering time in the afternoon’s time-trial, taking just 10 minutes and 41 seconds to complette the course. The Scot, who famously won the first leg of The Tour de France 2000, finished 46 seconds ahead of American Lance Armstrong in the stage.
Millar leads the overall standings by 13 seconds with Frenchman Anthony Morin and his compatriot Franck Bouyer by 25.
Friday’s fifth and final stage is a 199km run between Angers and La Fleche.
