Milano-Sanremo champ Ciolek re-signs with MTN-Qhubeka
The 26-year-old German will remain with the team through the 2015 season

Gerald Ciolek has extended his contract for two more years with MTN-Qhubeka, the team announced on Tuesday.
Ciolek, 26, earned the biggest victory of his career when he triumphed at Milano-Sanremo in March, a 298-kilometer race through northwest Italy. Several teams grew interested in signing Ciolek after that, but the German decided to stay with MTN, a UCI Pro Continental squad, through the 2015 season.
“I always said I would like to stay with this team,” Ciolek said in a MTN release. “As a professional cyclist you always look for other options but in the end I am really happy that I can go forward with this team. I think we had a really good year and now we want to build to go to an even better level next year.”
Ciolek added that he hopes MTN is invited to the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France in 2014, which would be a first for an African-based squad.
“We’re delighted that Gerald has extended with us,” team principal Douglas Ryder said. “He’s made a huge impact on our team not only with his results but also with mentoring the younger riders. We now look forward to increasing our race program as we build towards our first grand tour.”
