Jens Voigt will ride for the new Trek team in 2014, the company announced on Sunday.
“I’m glad Trek and I got to an agreement for 2014. It’s been three crazy years for me … with a lot of highlights, and I’m happy that we can go on for another year,” said the 41-year-old Voigt.
“I feel I still have some gas left in the tank, so I can’t wait for what’s coming!”
Voigt joined what then was called Leopard Trek in 2011, and remained on board when the squad became RadioShack-Nissan in 2012. Nissan ended its role with the team at the end of last season, and the team became RadioShack-Nissan.
With the team’s future in doubt for 2014, Trek purchased the squad from Leopard SA, owned by Flavio Becca.
In a press release, the Wisconsin company said it is in the process of securing sponsors and riders for the 2014 campaign.
“There has seldom been a foot soldier like Jens Voigt. He is the ultimate hardman. He attacks, he works like a dog, he crashes — and he gets up and does it all again the next day,” said Trek vice president Joe Vadeboncoeur.
“Trek is honored to have Jens finish his career here.”
