The Austrian city of Innsbruck will host the 2018 Road World Championships, the UCI announced on Monday.

Innsbruck is better known as a host of wintertime activities. The city has twice hosted the Winter Olympic Games (1964, 1976) as well as the Winter Paralympic Games (1984 and 1988), as well as the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012. The city has also hosted the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships on four occasions.

But Austria is no newcomer to major cycling events. The country has twice hosted the UCI road world championships, with Salzburg playing host in 2006. Austria is also a two-time host of the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.

This year’s UCI road championships will be held in Doha, Qatar in October, with the event moving to Bergen, Norway next year.
