Australian Chloe Hosking (Specialized-lululemon) topped world champion Giorgia Bronzini (Diadora-Pasta Zara) in a small group sprint to win the opener of a three-race series in the Netherlands Thursday. Marianne Vos (Rabo Women Cycling) rounded out the podium in third, while Megan Guarnier (Tibco-To The Top) was the top American in the Drentse 8 van Dwingeloo, in tenth.
The Drentse 8 and Sunday’s Novilon Euregio Cup are sandwiched around Saturday’s World Cup opener, the Ronde van Drenthe, in Hoogeveen.
“It was a hectic sprint,” said Bronzini. “I was blocked in the decisive moment and then I had to reassemble… The team was fantastic and worked so hard. This is demonstrated by the fact that we were almost all in the group going for the win. I do have some regreat, because I could have won, however it was important to demonstrate that the team is highly competitive internationally.”
