“Our line-up of sports directors reflect a very important part of our approach to building this team: to gather experienced and talented people in the sport whose competences compliment each other,” said general manager Shayne Bannan.
Olympian White has worked for Slipstream Sports and Garmin-Transitions. During his racing career, he represented Australia at the world championships and Commonwealth Games. Stephens was responsible for the initial recruiting for team GreenEdge. He will bring to the table his experience in the professional international peloton and experience as a sports director for the Spanish Movistar team.
Frenchman Lionel Marie directed Garmin-Cervélo in the Tour de France during its first stage victory and while the team rode in the maillot jaune. Belgium’s former six day track racer, Lorenzo Lapage, has left Astana to join the GreenEdge directors. Italian Vittorio Algeri boasts five years as a sports director in the pro peloton with the German Milram formation. The second Italian, Daniele Nardello, was a sports director for Geox after his racing career ended in 2009.
“We want GreenEdge to be a team where we can offer our riders the best framework in order to take the next step in their career,” said Bannan, “and I think we have gathered a group of sports directors who will be a key element in this ambition. Having had everyone on the road together for the first time at our camp in Australia, I can only confirm that the pieces are coming together perfectly for our debut season.”
