Giro Donne winner Mara Abbott: Committing to be authentically Mara

In a video exclusive, Giro Donne winner Mara Abbott says freedom and community have made 2010 her best year yet.

Mara Abbott became the first American woman to win the 10-stage Giro Donne Sunday. Riding with the U.S. National Team, Abbott won two mountain stages, including the queen stage that finished atop the Passo dello Stelvio on Saturday. With her win on the Stelvio, Abbott, 25, extended her lead to 2:05 over Judith Arndt (HTC-Columbia). Abbott’s national and trade teammate, Shelley Evans, won the final stage in Monza the following day and Abbott secured the maglia rosa.

Abbott visited VeloNews offices in Boulder Wednesday and talked about the gravity of achieving a major goal and how she has grown as an individual and a rider since finishing second at the Giro in 2009, among other topics.
