Garmin unveils youth-focused 2014 roster with strong core of veterans

Several young riders make up the squad's lineup for the upcoming season

Garmin-Sharp has announced its full 2014 roster, and it’s clear the squad is thinking about the future.

A small core of veterans is surrounded by a group of young riders as the team tries to foster less experienced athletes into UCI WorldTour machines.

“This is our youngest roster ever, which I’m happy about and proud of,” team CEO Jonathan Vaughters said in a press release. “It brings us back to the roots of this organization. We have the most talented riders in the world, it’s now our job to help them realize that talent and realize their dreams.”

A strong group that includes 2012 Giro d’Italia champion Ryder Hesjedal, Tom Danielson, and David Millar makes up the core, and they’re joined by Andrew Talansky, who finished 10th in the Tour de France this year, Dan Martin, who racked up a Tour stage win and the overall at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, and top sprinter Tyler Farrar. Also returning for 2014 are sprinter Steele Von Hoff, Paris-Roubaix champion Johan Vansummeren, and young sensations Rohan Dennis and Lachlan Morton.

Joining the team for the upcoming season is classics specialist Sebastian Langeveld, Janier Acevedo, Phil Gaimon, and climber Andre Cardoso.

Notable additions in the youth department include 21-year-old Nathan Brown, a two-time under-23 U.S. time trial champion, and Olympic track cycling gold medalist Lasse Hansen.
