La Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Italian national team coach and former world road champion Paolo Bettini was involved in a plane crash Wednesday afternoon. According to the report, Bettini and a companion landed an ultralight aircraft in the Mediterranean off the coast of Piombino, Italy. Bettini reportedly suffered a minor lesion on his leg.
According to the Gazzetta report, Bettini and his companion swam to a nearby fishing boat, and that ship’s crew called the Coast Guard. Bettini’s leg injury was the worst of the damage and both men were in good condition after being examined at a local hospital.
