Contador to testify in Puerto trial on February 22

Spaniard will appear in the flesh

MADRID (AFP) — Alberto Contador (Saxo-Tinkoff) will appear in-person as a witness in the Operación Puerto trial on February 22, a spokesman of the court announced on Monday.

While it was initially expected that Contador would provide testimony by video conference, he will appear in the High Court of Justice.

Contador was excluded from the 2006 Tour de France when Amaury Sport Organisation excluded his Astana-Würth team (former Liberty Seguros) over its involvement in the Puerto blood doping ring. A Spanish court later cleared Contador of involvement in the conspiracy. Contador’s former director, Manolo Saiz, is one of four defendants, which include doctor Eufemiano Fuentes, in the case.
