Eleven new faces that are part of the Columbia-HTC squad for 2010 are getting to know their new teammates at the team’s first confab ahead of next racing season.
The world’s No. 1 ranked team opened a 10-day training camp on the Spanish island of Lanzarote, bringing together sprinter ace Mark Cavendish and 27 other riders along with staff.
“It’s really great to have all of the guys together for the first time,” said team manager Rolf Aldag. “We have 11 new riders on the roster and it’s a good chance for them all to get to know each other and for the new guys to learn how we do things on this team. All of our individual meetings are going well and I have a really good feeling about 2010.”
All 28 members of the team for 2010 are convening at Club La Santa on Lanzarote, one of Spain’s Canary Islands.
In addition to putting in their first serious training miles ahead of a new season, the riders and staff also work on planning, bike fitting and set-up as well as testing.
“The Island is perfect for training at any time of year,” added Aldag. “We can train in short sleeves and we have the support of Club La Santa and the local government here so we feel very welcome.”
