The Tour de France champ is suffering from an inflamed sacroiliac joint, according to the team doctor

Sky’s Chris Froome has withdrawn from Sunday’s 107th Giro di Lombardia, citing back pain.

“Sadly, I won’t be able to compete at Il Lombardia on Sunday,” Froome announced via the Team Sky website.

“I had some back pain at the world championships last weekend and it hasn’t settled down as I’d hoped.”

Team doctor Alan Farrell said a scan indicated “an inflamed sacroiliac joint.”

The 242km “Race of the Falling Leaves” starts in Bergamo and finishes in Lecco. Joaquím Rodríguez (Katusha) won the season’s final monument last year.
