Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins will focus their efforts on Tour de France preparations and not compete in their national championships

LONDON, England (AFP) — World champion Mark Cavendish and Tour de France favorite Bradley Wiggins will skip Sunday’s British national road race championships, Team Sky confirmed Monday.

Five riders from the Sky team — reigning time trial champion Alex Dowsett, Jeremy Hunt, Luke Rowe, Ian Stannard and Ben Swift — will compete in the race at Ampleforth, North Yorkshire.

In addition to Cavendish and Wiggins, Chris Froome, Peter Kennaugh and Geraint Thomas will not be competing in the nationals, either.

Wiggins is currently preparing for the Tour de France which begins in Liège, Belgium, on June 30.
