Cavendish confirmed to miss Scheldeprijs

World champ will skip defense of semi-classic for birth of his daughter

World champion Mark Cavendish will not start the Scheldeprijs semi-classic next Wednesday, a Team Sky representative confirmed today.

Belgian network Sporza reported earlier in the day that the three-time and defending Scheldeprijs champion was a likely non-starter due to the impending birth of his daughter. The Sky rep confirmed to VeloNews that Cavendish would not return to racing next week.

“As for Mark, he’s not riding Scheldeprijs I’m afraid,” wrote the spokesperson in an email. “He’s on a break now after Ghent-Wevelgem.”

Cavendish’s next start will likely be at the Tour de Romandie, April 25-29 in Switzerland.
