Last year, Cadel Evans roared up the Mur de Huy to win Flèche Wallone while wearing the rainbow jersey, giving BMC one of its most important victories in team history.

This year, BMC will have to make do without Evans, who is missing the Ardennes classics after nursing a quadricep injury from three weeks ago in training.

“Without Cadel, we will have a more offensive strategy throughout the whole race,” said BMC Racing Team sports director John Lelangue in a team report.

Mathias Frank said Evans will be missed, but Greg Van Avermaet and Martin Kohler are riding well.

“The Mur der Huy at the end is impressive and gives the race its character,” he said. “I really like this race but I don’t think my shape is good enough to follow the strongest guys at the end, so I will try to help the other guys as well as I can.”
