Cuban rider Iraida Garcia Ocasio won the third stage of the Tour Femenino de San Luis on Tuesday as Briton Hannah Barnes (UnitedHealthcare) maintained her grip on the race lead.
Garcia Ocasio edged Brazilian Clemilda Fernandes Silva, who finished with the same time, and Paola Munoz of Chile (three seconds back) at the finish line. Twenty-seven other riders were close behind at four seconds behind Garcia Ocasio.
Barnes, who won the race’s first two stages, finished 11th in Tuesday’s 75-kilometer stage but kept her overall race lead with three stages left.
Elena Cecchini (Estado De Mexico Faren) is 11 ticks back in second, while Garcia Ocasio moved up to third overall and now sits 13 seconds behind Barnes.
The race picks up Wednesday with a 14km time trial in Llana, Argentina, followed by two more stages of 70km and 80km.
