NICE, France (AFP) — Kazach cyclist Valentin Iglinskiy of Team Astana will go before a French judge in September to face drunk driving and speeding charges stemming from an arrest Tuesday, according to a judicial source.
Iglinskiy’s brother Maxim, also on Astana, recently completed the Tour de France. Valentin did not start the French race, contrary to some earlier news reports. Valentin, 27, won the second stage of the 2011 Tour of Turkey earlier this year.
Iglinskiy was pulled over near Nice for driving 203 kph (126mph) in a 110 kph zone. He allegedly had an alcohol level of .64mg per litre.
In a team statement, Iglinskiy apologized for the transgressions which he “profoundly regretted.”
