2015 Amgen Tour of California route announced

The men's race will cover 724 miles over eight days, while the women will race 158 miles in three days, plus a time trial, in May

Organizers unveiled the 10th edition of the Amgen Tour of California route on Thursday, which will feature 724 miles of racing over familiar roads and some places that are new to the eight-day race in May.

The women’s race route was also announced, and it will cover 158 miles over three days (May 8-10). There will also be a 15-mile time trial at Big Bear Lake on May 15.

The men’s event is scheduled for May 10-17 and will start with a 127-mile stage that begins and ends in Sacramento, California’s state capital.

From there, the race will include ascents of the familiar Mount Hamilton and Mount Baldy, and will feature a 15-mile time trial at Big Bear Lake that will be fast and flat.

The race concludes with a circuit race around Los Angeles that finishes at the Rose Bowl in nearby Pasadena.

“We’ve reached a milestone this year with the tenth edition of the race, and we want everything to reflect that cache, from the best lineup of teams we’ve ever had to an unbelievably beautiful and exciting route,” said Kristin Bachochin Klein, executive director of the Amgen Tour of California and senior vice president of AEG Sports. “All of the pieces of the race have come together to set the stage for something truly legendary and memorable. I think it’s going to be a year for the record books.”

The women’s race, meanwhile, will have two stages in the Lake Tahoe area before stage 3 takes them to Sacramento for a circuit race. The four-day event concludes with a time trial at Big Bear Lake.

“Cycling attracts extraordinary athletes, and we’re thrilled to provide the women with a bigger platform this year as we continue to expand our commitment to women’s professional cycling,” Klein said. “We look forward to our fans experiencing the best teams in the world racing in California in May.”
