Los Angeles-based cycling club Veloworx Racing will hold an online auction to benefit one of its sponsors, the Tyler Hamilton Foundation (THF), beginning Sunday, May 16th on eBay (www.ebay.com). Bidding closes Sunday, May 23rd, the same day an open house and closing reception will be held at the Veloworx bike shop from 3-6 p.m., which is free and open to the public. All of the proceeds from the auction will benefit THF, a charity launched in January by professional cyclist Tyler Hamilton, perhaps best known for his heroic ride in the 2003 Tour de France when he incredibly finished the three-week bike race in fourth place despite fracturing his collarbone on the second day.
Among the items up for auction are hotel accommodations, VIP dinner and ride with Hamilton at the Pedal for Progress THF benefit events in Napa Valley and Denver; a Hamilton-autographed Phonak jersey; cycling DVDs autographed by Hamilton; a limited edition framed print of Hamilton from last year’s Tour de France by photographer Jeff Tse; a 2000 U.S. Olympic skinsuit autographed by Dylan Casey; a Team T-Mobile jersey autographed by the entire women’s U.S. national team; a PowerTap/Nimble wheel and six-month Velo-Fit premium coaching package; Speedplay Zero Pedals; Wines of the 2004 Tour de France; one-year membership at Joe’s Gym; a commercial grade Maytag Jenn Air 30” barbecue grill; and a “Joan of Arcadia” package that includes a behind the scenes tour of the hit television show’s set, a script signed by the cast and lunch on the Sony lot with the show’s co-executive producer Peter Schindler. The Tyler Hamilton Foundation’s mission is to provide opportunity and access for individuals affected by multiple sclerosis and aspiring young athletes with a passion for cycling. The foundation is dedicated to individuals diagnosed with multiple sclerosis so that they may maintain a high quality of life while dealing with the daily complications of the disease and to MS research that is critical to finding a cure. Also the organization is dedicated to paving the road for aspiring young cyclists who do not have the opportunities that were provided to Tyler as he began his career. Veloworx Racing is a non-profit cycling club in its first season that is dedicated to promoting the sport to men and women of all ages, with a special focus on developing younger riders for competition in the elite ranks.
