Scott bicycleswere sold in America throughout much of the 1990’s, but the company discontinuedsales here during it’s tenure owning the Schwinn brand to avoid takingmarket share with two competing brands. The company later sold Schwinn,deciding to stay focused in the USA with its wintersports and motorsportsdivisions which sell ski poles, ski & motocross goggles, accessoriesand clothing.The plan is to launch the Scott bicycle brand at the Sea Otter Classicin mid-April. The company will have a new truck and 35ft. trailer at thevenue to allow consumers, dealers and editors a chance to ride new Scottbicycles. World Marathon Champion Thomas Frischknecht will be riding hisfull suspension Scott Genius Marathon Concept bike during the weekend.Also attending will be Timo Pritzel, former BMX World Champion and a formerSea Otter Classic Dirt Contest winner, riding his Scott Voltage trialsbike. Scott USA Bike Timeline/History1958 – Ed Scott revolutionized the sport of skiing with the firstaluminum tapered ski pole. He founded Scott in Sun Valley, Idaho.
1971- Scott introduced the first ski goggles utilizing foamventilation. Went on to become leaders in goggles around the world.
1978 – Scott opened European Headquarters in Fribourg, Switzerland.
1986 – Scott introduced the aerodynamic handlebar which helpedGreg Lemond win the tour de France and began Scott into the cycling business.
1991 – Scott introduced the Unishock mountain bike suspension.Ruthie Matthes won World Championships on this fork.
1992 – Scott ships first full suspension mountain bike. Introducescycling shoes and other accessories.
1993 – Scott purchased the Schwinn bicycle company out of bankruptcy.
1997 – Scott introduced technical winter-sport apparel line.Sold the Schwinn bicycle company in September 1997.
1998 – Scott introduces the lightest full suspension mountainbike named the “G-zero”.
2000 – Scott Strike carbon full suspension bike is the lightestin the world. Thomas Frischknecht signs on to ride Scott bicycles.
2001- Scott introduces the Team Issue road bike with the lightestframe worldwide at sub 1kg made of Scandium aluminum.
2003 – Scott Carbon CR1 frame weighing 895g. wins the 10th stageof the Tour de France. It is the lightest frame ever to be raced at theTour.
2003 – Thomas Frischknecht rides a Scott Genius MC full-suspensionbike to win the World Marathon Championships. Genius MC bike with 3-wayadjustable rear shock introduced.
2004 – Scott sponsors Saunier Duval Pro Cycling Team and willrace Dodge Tour of Georgia, Wachovia Pro Cycling Championships, Giro d’Italia,and other key international races. Tim Johnson of ex-Saturn rider signsfor the team. Team currently Ranked 9th in UCI standings.
