FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FEBRUARY 19, 2004Rock Out with Andy Hampsten and A President of the United Statesof America at the Seattle International Bicycle Expo 2004Seattle – To kick off the 2004 cycling season, Hampsten Cycles celebrates the introduction of their new time trial bike, the Vetriolo, with an appearance by Andy Hampsten at the Seattle International Bicycle Expo. In addition, the enigmatic and idiosyncratic Hampsten brothers have enlisted Seattle-based rock musician, Dave Dederer, singer/guitarist for The Presidents of the United States of America, to assist in the Hampstenbooth.Steve and Andy Hampsten will be introducing a new Hampsten time trial frameset, the Vetriolo. The Vetriolo is a go-fast, aerodynamic machine welded by Co-Motion Cycles from 7005-series aero-shaped aluminum tubeset, all to Andy’s specifications. Long-time cycling aficionados will recall that Andy was no slouch in the time trial department, as evidenced by his overall win in the 1988 Giro d’Italia (including the Levico-Vetriolo time-trial, for which this model is named) and numerous top-ten time-trial placings throughout his career. The Vetriolo will serve the needs of roadies looking for a dedicated tt machine or triathletes looking to shave massive time off their bike leg. Like Hampsten’s other road bike offerings in steel, aluminum, titanium and carbon, the Vetriolo is made here in America.Dave Dederer’s appearance at the booth is neither accident nor hype.Dederer, a Category 4 racer with Seattle’s Jet City Velo club, purchasedone of the first
Hampsten steel framesets in 2000, and so began a friendship with Steve. Before becoming a rock star, Dederer worked in public relations, and he now lends Hampsten Cycles a hand with press, product design, and marketing chores.Says Dederer, “Steve and Andy are wonderful guys, and I think their bikes blow just about everybody else out of the water – it’s the only place where Joe Average can readily get a winner of a major tour to consult on the design of their custom bike. I think Steve and Andy’s ideas on geometry and design are way more sensible than many of those embraced by much of the industry. These are great looking, great handling bikes.”Dederer’s band, The Presidents of the United States of America, will be appearing Thursday, March 4 and Friday, March 5 at Seattle’s Showbox Theater on First Avenue.
