New I-Beam Model to Incorporate Flex Feature

Duarte, California, February 16, 2004 — Dahon California, Inc.,the world leader in folding bicycles, and California-based bicycle seatdesigners S.D.G. (Speed Defies Gravity), have collaborated to make Dahon’s2004 premier bike models lighter and more versatile than ever. S.D.G.’sunique I-Beam system, which employs a single composite “rail” molded intothe base of the saddle, versus dual metal rails, saves significant weightand roughly triples the fore-aft adjustability of standard seats. UsingS.D.G.’s I-Beam rail system, Dahon and S.D.G collaborated to develop thelightweight I-Flex saddle.

“We’re pretty obsessive weight-weenies here at Dahon and when we sawa way to slash all sorts of weight from the saddle rail design AND improvefunctionality, it was a pretty easy call to make,” said Mr. Hon. “Whatis really special about the I-Flex saddle, is the flex section in the center. Our riders want light weight without sacrificing comfort, and the new saddleprovides a kind of suspension for them.”

S.D.G. founder, Jerome Mel, concurred.  “High-performance and competitiveriders, our core customers, love the I-Beam for its light weight and bomb-proofstrength, but Dahon also wanted comfort and adjustability.  Ridersoften ask us about the compliance of the original I-Beam system. The new I-Flex seat addresses those questions in a very visual way, whilemaintaining all of the advantages of the original I-Beam. Heck, the I-Flexis a 200-gram ‘comfort saddle’!”

Dahon, long known for extremely functional and reasonably priced foldingbikes, has in the last few years expanded into the performance foldingbike category. Collaborations with Joe Murray, Tom Ritchey, Rolf, CaneCreek, Schwalbe, and S.D.G. among others, have propelled Dahon bikes tothe top of the performance category as well.“Thanks to innovations like the I-Flex saddle, we can deliver foldingbikes that are only 17 pounds. That’s a godsend for people who have tofold their bikes and carry them up and down stairs and onto buses, trainsand planes,” concluded Hon.
