Minnesota’s National Sports Center Velodrome To Host Midwest Sprint Challenge, August 8-9
Men and women speedsters to compete for $2000 purse
Blaine, MN (July 22, 2008) – The National Sports Center Velodrome announced today that it will host the 2008 Midwest Sprint Challenge, August 8-9 – showcasing sprint races for fans in Minnesota.
“Most of the 2008 Olympic cycling medals will be awarded in Velodrome events,” noted Bob Williams, NSC Velodrome Director. “For most cycling fans, Olympic coverage remains the only way to experience these events. By hosting the Midwest Sprint Challenge just before Olympic cycling coverage begins, we’re giving fans a chance to experience Olympic drama up close and personal.”
The NSC Velodrome has hosted world-class track cycling for nearly 20 years. World and Olympic champions have raced at this acclaimed venue, setting multiple state, national and world records. In June, the inaugural MN Fixed Gear Classic drew the largest, most celebrated field in Minnesota cycling history, including 3-time World and 41-time Italian National Champion, Roberto Chiappa.
The Midwest Sprint Challenge will include match sprints, mass-start sprint races and Keirins. Open category events are available for Cat 1-3 riders. Cat 4-5 races will also be held each day $2000 in prizes will be awarded in Men’s and Women’s Open events. Racing begins at 7 PM on Friday, August 8 and continues through Saturday evening, August 9.
