Always seeking new ways to appeal to a broader range of outdoor enthusiasts, the Dash and Bash Trail Run will be the newest sport added to the lineup of competitions at this year’s Oskar Blues Lyons Outdoor Games presented by Smith Optics in Lyons, Colorado.
The 5k crosscountry trail run adds some flair to the running world with an optional “dress to impress” theme, formally dressed runners will start and finish near Sandstone Park culminating in a grand post-event bash. Montrail shoes has stepped up and sponsored the RUN LIKE A MOTHER heat as well as donating some great prizes for the run. The Dash and Bash Trail Run should be quite the affair. “I have no doubt this will be a wildly popular addition to the Games,” said Dave Cosgrove who, as director of Lyons Park, Recreation and Cultural Events. “We’re extremely pleased and excited to add this fun run to the mix, and we look forward to seeing some polyester suits and fancy dresses hit the trails.” The race starts from Sandstone Park at 5pm on June 12th. Pre-registration is encouraged but onsite registration will be accepted. So lace up your shoes, pull out the old prom dresses and get ready to dash followed by one heck of a bash!
The Lyons Outdoor Games is a three-day multi-sport event with appeal to pros and weekend warriors alike. Prize money is offered in kayaking (freestyle, creek racing and slalom), mountain biking (short track, dirt jump and pump track). Prizes provided by some leading outdoor retailers and sponsors of the event will be available to top competitors in other events including the Skateboarding Comp and Dash and Bash Trail Run. Family-friendly, just like this sleepy little town, kid’s events include a free climbing wall and a cadet class kayaking division that continues to grow by double digit percentages each year. Even the family dog is welcome and encouraged to enter the Canine Cannonball and a hotly contested fetching competition. Spectators who get caught up in the excitement of the sports at the viewer-friendly competition venues, can sign up onsite for low-cost clinics, some free and none costing more than $25. The skills clinics appeal to a range of adrenaline quotients from how to loop a kayak to tamer pursuits like proper flyrod casting technique. The clinics are conducted by visiting pro competitors, many of whom are tops in their respective sports.
The vibe for the Games is enhanced with foot-stomping music and thirst-quenching beer from title sponsor Oskar Blues Brewery, which started making its award-winning handcrafted canned beer in Lyons in 2002. Speaking of crafts, the uniquely mountain man craft of chainsaw carving will also be on display daily. For further information and to pre-register for competitions or clinics, some of which have participation caps, visit http://www.LyonsOutdoorGames.com. Entrance for the general public is free.
