USA Cycling has secured a second venue for NORBA’s 24-hour national championship after a scheduling dispute resulted in the withdrawal of the event’s original promoter.
Originally scheduled for May 17 and 18 at California’s Laguna Seca raceway, the NORBA event has been re-scheduled to be run in conjunction with the“Round The Clock” 24-hour race on Memorial Day weekend, May 24-25, 2003at Riverside State Park in Spokane, Washington. The Spokane race is organized by Round and Round, promoters of past NORBA Nationals and UCI World Cup events.
Meanwhile, the Laguna Seca race, organized by 24-Hours of Adrenalin, remains scheduled for May 17 and 18, but will continue without NORBA sanction. The organizers were apparently upset by NORBA’s decision to schedule its NCS opener at Big Bear Lake, California, on the same weekend.
While not addressing the scheduling dispute directly, Eric Moore, USA Cycling’snational field operations director, said he was pleased with the signingof Round and Round.
“It is exciting to have such a quality promotions company step forwardto take on this event,” said Moore.
The Riverside Park venue is just 20 minutes from downtown Spokane and offers ample camping opportunities at the start/finish area. Organizers are also offering lighting support through Nite Rider, a midnight feeding frenzy, and post event pasta feed.
“As we say around here, the freaks come out at night, and the 24-hourexperience is one-of-a-kind,” Gino Lisecki of Round and Round noted ina press release issued this week.
Well, two-of-a-kind if you go to Laguna Seca as well.
