The 17th edition of the La Ruta de los Conquistadores rolls away from Costa Rica’s Pacific shore on Nov. 11 with a finish on the country’s Caribbean coast Nov. 14.
Defending, and five-time, champion Federico Ramirez of Costa Rica will return for a try at another win. Fellow Costa Ricans Paolo Montoya and Enrique Artavia rounded out the 2008 La Ruta.
For this year’s race, most of the MonaVie-Cannondale team will compete, including Tinker Juarez, Jeremiah Bishop, Ben Sonntag and Matt Ohran. Coming for his second time is road racer Roberto Heras, four-time winner of the Vuelta a España. He placed seventh in 2008.
California-based Manuel Prado, the Costa Rican national champion, will race with Sho-Air teammate Ben Bostrom, a former Superbike champion.
