According to reports coming out of Europe on Thursday, Miguel Martinez’s two suitors have reached an accord that will allow the Frenchman to race both on the road and the dirt in 2002.

In a deal reached Wednesday, Full-Dynamix and Mapei-Quick Step have agreed to share Martinez’s services next year, allowing the 2000 Olympic mountain bike champion to make his pro road racing debut, while still honoring his original contract with Full Dynamix.

Martinez will reportedly race most of the mountain bike World Cups, plus the world mountain bike championships in Kaprun, Austria. There was no immediate word on what his road-racing itinerary would be.

Originally, Martinez had said he was leaving the fat tires behind, but when Full Dynamix raised the issue of his yet-to-expire contract, the rider affectionately know as “Le Petite Prince” was forced back to the negotiating table.
