Leah Kirchmann has had one of her most successful seasons to date riding for the Liv-Plantur team, and it got even better this week as the team announced she will ride for the squad through 2018. Kirchmann is in her first year with the Dutch team and has already gotten some good results. She won Drentse Acht van Westervel earlier this season, her team’s first victory of the season. She followed that performance up with a third-place overall finish at the Tour of Chongming Island.

Kirchmann, 25, said that she is very excited to confirm the contract extension and feels that the team is a good fit. “The combination of supportive and knowledgeable staff, strong teammates, and fantastic sponsors all contributed to my decision to extend my contract. My expectations and goals for the next few years are to continue to push myself and my teammates to achieve the next level of success at the WorldTour level.”

Prior to joining the team, Kirchmann raced for Optum – Kelly Benefit Strategies for three seasons. Her best results in those years were two stage wins at the Tour of California (2015) and a third place finish at La Course. She is currently the best Canadian female cyclist in the world, as she sits top-10 in the WorldTour rankings.

Not only that, Kirchmann is the highest-placed member of her team in those rankings and has notched its only win so far this season. “Extending Leah’s contract was an important next step in the development of the team,” coach Hans Timmermans said. “She is able to share her race knowledge and experience, and is capable of filling in the leader’s role. The goal with Leah is to focus on achieving good results in the WorldTour races. This is the logical next step in her career and we are confident that we will be able to reach these targets.”
