In the News: Britain also considers criminalizing doping

Britain may soon join the ranks of other countries that are seeking to make sports doping a criminal offense, despite WADA opposition.

The BBC reports that Britain’s sports minister, Tracey Crouch, is considering making sports doping a criminal offense. This comes in the wake of a statement by WADA, released Sunday at the Play the Game conference, which opposes measures to penalize dopers under a country’s criminal code.

“It is an interesting idea,” Crouch told the BBC. “I’ve asked officials in my department to have a look at the issue. … We will make a judgement based on that in the near future.”
