Despite missing the final event, The International, with a broken collarbone,Prime Alliance’s Chris Horner won the inaugural VeloNews Stage RaceBro Tour with an eight point cushion over International winner and teammateDanny Pate, with John Lieswyn (7UP-Nutra Fig) finishing third. The women’sstandings were unchanged at the top after the final race, with KimberlyBruckner (Saturn) beating out Lyne Bessette.August also saw the fifth round of the (single-day) Road Race Bro Tour,the Saturn Cycling Classic. After his emotional victory in the 140-mileepic, Mercury’s Chris Wherry moved into the lead of the rankings, two pointsahead of teammate Henk Vogels. The final event is the San Francisco GrandPrix, September 15.Mercury also stands atop the criterium rankings following the ManhattanBeach Grand Prix, with Gord Fraser tied with Navigators Vassili Davidenko,while Diet Rite’s Tina Mayolo-Pic held a slim lead over Freddie Fu’s TaniaDuff-Miller. Five races remained after Manhattan Beach: USPRO Crit, ChrisThater Memorial, San Rafael Cycling Classic, the Miami Cycling Classicand the Michelin Classic.Horner and Bruckner also top USA Cycling rankings
Meanwhile, USA Cycling released its latest NRC rankings earlier thisweek, with the Prime Alliance men and Saturn women leading the way in thestandings. Prime Alliance’s Horner and Danny Pate occupy the top two men’sspots, with Mercury’s Chris Wherrry in third.In the women’s standings, Bruckner and teammate Judith Arndt stand one-two,followed by their former Saturn teammate Bessette. In the team standings,Prime Alliance is locked in a tight battle with Mercury on the men’s side,while the Saturn women are the runaway leaders ahead of Rona.
