Louisville, Kentucky, could host the cyclocross world championships in 2013. The team behind the U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross events hosted in that city confirmed to VeloNews that a bid was submitted to the UCI.

“We have enthusiastically submitted a bid, and we are waiting to hear the UCI’s final decision in Tabor,” said event director Joan Hanscom, referring to the upcoming announcement at this year’s ’cross world championships in the Czech Republic.
Hanscom is working with executive director Bruce Fina in conjunction with the Louisville Sports Commission on the deal.
UCI ’cross coordinator Peter van den Abelee told Het Laatste Nieuws that the city was leading candidate to host the 2013 event. It would be the first time ’cross worlds would be held outside of Europe.
“The UCI did do a site visit, and we are very encouraged by Peter van van den Abelee’s comments to the Belgian press,” Hanscom said.
